Business loans by industry
A tradie’s progress payments, a café’s daily takings, an online store’s settlement cycles — revenue moves differently in every industry, and a good assessment reads it that way.
Every industry banks its money to a different beat. A café’s revenue arrives daily and dips when the weather turns; a builder’s arrives in progress payments with long quiet stretches in between; an online store’s lands in platform settlements days after the sale. Because the lending we arrange is assessed on your latest six months of banked revenue, that rhythm isn’t background noise — it is the assessment. A lender familiar with your industry reads a lumpy construction ledger or a seasonal retail curve as a normal pattern rather than a warning sign, which is a genuine part of why matching matters; our guide on how lenders assess six months of revenue shows exactly what they’re reading.
One thing these pages are not: a promise. Listing an industry doesn’t mean every business in it qualifies — assessment is always individual, built on your revenue consistency, cash flow, existing commitments, time trading and credit information, and some applications in every industry are declined. What the pages do is show how businesses like yours typically use finance, which structures fit the way your money moves, and what lenders will make of your particular pattern. The plain-English rundown of what gets weighed up is on our eligibility page, and the paperwork side rarely goes beyond what’s listed under documents required.
Industry is the lens, not the whole picture. What you’re funding matters just as much — the business needs hub works through stock, equipment, payroll, tax debt and the other jobs capital gets asked to do, whatever trade you’re in. The structures themselves — term loans, lines of credit, low-doc options — are compared side by side in the business loans hub, so the shape of the borrowing matches the shape of your revenue. And for the underlying facts every one of these pages is built on — maximum amounts, assessment inputs, process stages and timing — the loan data hub keeps them all on a single page, updated first whenever anything changes.
Frequently asked questions
My industry isn’t on this list — can I still enquire?
Yes. These eight are the industries we’re asked about most, not a boundary. Finance is available Australia-wide to businesses with an active ABN and genuine trading revenue, whatever the field. The enquiry form asks for your contact details, your approximate monthly revenue, the amount you’re after and what it’s for — you describe what the business actually does when the specialist rings back, and that shapes which lenders see the enquiry. An unlisted industry just means the conversation starts there.
Are some industries treated as higher risk by lenders?
Honestly, yes. Lenders form views on industry stability, failure rates and revenue volatility, and those views affect appetite and sometimes pricing. But industry is one input, not a verdict — a business with strong, consistent banked revenue in a harder industry can still be assessed on its own record. What no one should promise you is that industry never matters.
I’ve recently switched industries — does my earlier trading history count?
Partly. Assessment leans on your latest six months of banked revenue, so recent trading in the new industry carries the most weight. A longer history in a previous field still says something useful about how you run a business, but it can’t stand in for a record in the current one. If the switch is very fresh, a few more months of trading may be the honest prerequisite.
Does being in a seasonal industry make approval harder?
Not inherently — lenders who work with retail, tourism and hospitality expect a yearly curve and read it as a pattern, not a problem. What matters is that the pattern holds: a quiet May that mirrors last May reads fine, while a decline that has no seasonal explanation reads differently. Timing helps too, since applying with your strong months in the recent window shows the business at its truest.
